Biography

Trinity Cambridge, then St Michael Wood Street and St Faith's London. Jackson published Reformed commentaries on the Pentateuch (1643), the historical books, and the prophets — one of the major mid-century English Bible-commentary projects, intended as a Reformed counterweight to Hugo Grotius's Annotationes. He attended the Assembly through its main sessions, was ejected at St Faith's in 1662, and died in 1666.

The great majority of the sitting members were English parish ministers of Presbyterian conviction. They formed the drafting core of the Assembly, manning its three standing committees and supplying most of the text of the Confession, the two Catechisms, and the Directory for Public Worship.
