HC 14

Heidelberg Catechism

Q14. Can any mere creature pay for us?

No. In the first place, God will not punish another creature for the sin which man has committed. Furthermore, no mere creature can sustain the burden of God's eternal wrath against sin and deliver others from it.

  2. 5 passages are cited here. Which does the most work, and is anything claimed that the proofs do not obviously carry?
  3. WSC Q4 treats the same ground. What does it add, and why might it put things differently?
  4. WSC Q5 treats the same ground. What does it add, and why might it put things differently?
