John Strickland

c. 1601–1670

Salisbury preacher; preached parliamentary fast sermons.

Biography

Of Queen's College Oxford, then Burton-on-Trent and (from 1638) New Sarum (Salisbury) where he was a senior cathedral lecturer through the war. Strickland preached fast sermons before the Long Parliament in 1644 and 1645 (Mercy Rejoycing Against Judgement, 1645) and was a steady Presbyterian voice in the catechetical committee. He was ejected at the Restoration from his Salisbury lectureship and again in 1662 under the Act of Uniformity. Died in 1670.
