Biography
Of Magdalen Hall Oxford and (from 1640) Christ Church, the younger Wilkinson — known to contemporaries as 'Long Harry' to distinguish him from his uncle 'Dean Harry' the elder Henry Wilkinson — held a canonry at Christ Church from 1648 and the Lady Margaret Professorship of Divinity at Oxford (1648-62) in succession to his uncle. He was active in the parliamentary reorganisation of Oxford as one of the visitors. At the Assembly he was a more vocal contributor than his uncle, working on the Confession's chapters on the moral law and the Sabbath. Ejected in 1662 for nonconformity, he ministered as a Dissenter at Buckminster (Leicestershire) and (later) Clapham, until his death in 1675.
English Presbyterian divine
The great majority of the sitting members were English parish ministers of Presbyterian conviction. They formed the drafting core of the Assembly, manning its three standing committees and supplying most of the text of the Confession, the two Catechisms, and the Directory for Public Worship.
